System Architect

AMSYSTEMS B.V.  Eindhoven

32-40 hours per week

Introduction
We are on a mission to bring 3D printing to the next phase of industrial production. We focus on the industrial stereolithography 3D (resin-based) printers, improving both speed and resolution. Our product portfolio includes laser based light sources, recoaters and advanced process control solutions. We are a fast growing start-up company, founded in 2019 as a spin-off from TNO.
We develop and commercialize next generation Additive Manufacturing Technology, by providing high-tech HW/SW solutions to 3D printer OEM’s and (industrial) end-users. Our products realize disruptive improvements in printing performance, enabling 3D printing to go into the mass customization phase.

Context of the position
Within AMSYSTEMS you drive the execution of the AMSYSTEMS roadmap. You have a crucial role in realizing our technical promises to the 3D printing market. You will work closely with our Chief Business Officer (CBO) and you’ll report to the CTO.

What do we expect from you?

  • Co-create our roadmap and act as technical lead in multiple parallel projects. Your project involvement is from applied research to product development till product launch. Projects include internal product developments with or without external R&D partners, as well as projects for and with customers.
  • Evaluation of customer expectations and – specifications, translate these into written product requirements, manage baselines and change requests and ensure traceability.
  • Create system performance simulation models, perform trade-off studies and realize test setups to demonstrate feasibility.
  • Design new product architectures by exploring potential concepts and defining interfaces and integration aspects.
  • You are responsible for the technical aspects within a project and work closely together with the project leader and the technical teams of AMSYTEMS and its R&D partners.
  • Set up and maintain technical contacts with new and existing R&D partners such as TNO and define, review and sign off their deliverables.
  • Coordination of the development process for cross discipline technical topics (electronics, software, controls, optics, mechanics,…) and support integration aspects of our products at customers.
  • You drive technical design reviews in projects in which you take decisions with the AMSYSTEMS R&D team on the quality dimension within the time and budget constraints.
  • Coach medior and junior team members.
  • (Stimulate) IP and patent creation as well as proposals for R&D subsidies and grants.
  • You will regularly travel to R&D and supply chain partners in the Netherlands and a few times per year to customers in Europe, USA and Asia.

Profile

  • You have a MSc. or PhD in a hardware discipline like Mechatronics, Mechanics, Electronics or Applied Physics. Background in R&D for multidisciplinary precision equipment (micrometres) such as wafer scanners, analytics equipment or 3D printers. Optics knowledge is a strong preference.
  • At least 6 years of experience as system engineer or - architect for a complex (opto-)mechatronics precision machine including real time signal processing, control systems and the related software.
  • Experience in Additive Manufacturing or printing industry is a strong preference.
  • Experience with simulation tools (e.g. MATLAB/Simulink, ANSYS).
  • You are an perseverant and systematic worker with a goal-oriented and analytical mindset. Start-up life brings certain challenges, dynamics (and excitement) and requires flexibility. Self-driven & pro-active and hands-on.
  • Thanks to your strong communication and presentation skills and good knowledge of English, you excel at teamwork and get your message across to AMSYSTEMS colleagues, R&D partners and customers
  • English is our company language, speaking Dutch or willingness to learn is an advantage

What can you expect from us?

  • A crucial and technical challenging role in an innovative, well-organized start-up company. We have a professional way of working and no bureaucracy.
  • Our products are high speed, high accuracy opto-mechatronics modules consisting of multiple motion controlled actuated subsystems and real time software running on FPGA boards which will technically challenge you to unlock the desired product performance. On top of that there are opportunities to learn in the area of 3D printing, novel materials and machine learning.
  • We believe in “innovation by cooperation”, so we have an outward looking mindset. We are an active member in the Additive Manufacturing ecosystem in Brainport, enabling multiple opportunities for technology & business cooperation.
  • The freedom to operate and to develop yourself in our fast growing company and Brainport setting.
  • An international team of seasoned entrepreneurs from which you can learn, young graduates and students.
  • Part of your time you can work from home, so no need to live in Eindhoven area, as long as you will be able to come to our office regularly.
  • A base salary together with stock options & shares plan.
  • An office at the High Tech Campus with multiple facilities like shops, restaurants, great networking facilities and good connections to public transport.
